As previously reported by The New York Times, London’s newest stage jaunt into the world of Harry Potter may be headed for Broadway in 2018.
According to several reports, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the West End play and latest story extension of J.K. Rowling’s beloved series, has its sights on the Lyric Theatre for a release date in the spring season of 2018. Currently, the Lyric Theatre houses Cirque du Soleil’s Paramour. Cirque du Soleil head theatrical producer Scott Zeiger told The New York Times that the producers behind Cursed Child “made us an offer we couldn’t refuse” with regards to leaving the Lyric as the theater plans massive reconstruction in anticipation for Cursed Child. (According to Zeiger, Paramour still plans to have a future after its final performance at the Lyric Theatre in April 2017.)

Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender have joined J.K. Rowling with The Ambassador Theatre Group to continue executing talks to bring this megahit play to the Great White Way. Currently on the West End, Cursed Child was written by Jack Thorne and is based on a story by Thorne, John Tiffany, and J.K. Rowling herself.
The London production has confirmed that it will continue to play during any future stagings in New York.
