These are our must-see magical moments

With Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway currently bringing Agrabah to life eight times a week in New York City, there could not be a better title to add to Disney’s ever-growing list of live-action remakes. Disney recently released the latest trailer for the eagerly anticipated live-action remake of Aladdin, which is headed to theaters in May, and fans have been speculating about what the new movie might entail. With the buzz surrounding the new Aladdin movie, we’ve rounded up some must-see moments from both the original animated film and the Broadway show that we’re hoping to see on the big screen.

#10: The Cave of Wonders
One of the best parts of Aladdin is the scene right before Genie’s introduction. Aladdin’s first entrance into the cave of wonders will be one of the most captivating moments of the film. On top of its visual appeal, the setting must be just right for the introduction of the Genie.

#9: Animal Sidekicks
The one thing most audiences miss from the Broadway production is the sidekicks! Iago, Apu and Rajah are the animal sidekicks of the original film, and the characters we want to see the most in the upcoming live-action adaptation. Think about it: Where would Aladdin be without his number one partner in crime?

#8: Aladdin’s band of misfits
If you’ve seen the Broadway production, you know that the animal sidekicks were traded in for Aladdin’s band of misfit friends! Babkak, Aladdin, Kassim and Omar are known as the resident street rats of Agrabah. If you pay close attention to the newly released live action trailer, you’ll see four camels in the desert. Could it be them? Possibly – We’ll see soon enough.

#7: Ultimate Villainy
Jafar needs to be the biggest bad guy we’ve ever seen onscreen. Widely known, as the villain of our collective childhoods, for his haunting voice and his parrot sidekick Iago, Jafar is one of the best Disney villains. He deserves to have his moment of ultimate evil in the new film.

#6: “Friend Like Me”
In the new Aladdin movie, we need every minute of Genie-packed goodness we can get, and that includes the spectre’s signature number. If Disney can find the middle ground between the high-energy performance of the Broadway company and the action-packed sequences of the original film, this must-see moment will be perfect.

#5: Magical Moments
Aladdin is one of the most magical animated films of all time, so the live-action film has a lot to live up to! Aladdin is a spectacle, and the magic has to be awe-inspiring, from the Genie’s powers to Aladdin and Jasmine’s magic carpet ride.

#4: The Relationships
We hope to see a full spectrum of love on display in the live-action Aladdin. In most films, we only see limited representations of love, focused primarily on a romantic storyline, but the various relationships in Aladdin are ripe for upending this norm. A display of the full extent of Aladdin, Genie, and Abu’s bromance, or even a glimpse of the love between the sultan and Jasmine, would be must-see moments.

#3: Backstory Songs
Two of the best moments from the musical are “Proud of your Boy” and “These Palace Walls.” Both songs make these characters’ (Aladdin and Jasmine) worlds a little bigger. This musical character development is one aspect of the Broadway show we would love to transfer to the new film. We want fully fleshed-out characters in the live-action remake, so including these songs would help.

#2: Exploring Agrabah
Take us to a “Whole New World!” It might sound cheesy, but the new film respresents an opportunity to introduce the audience to the fictional land of Agrabah in a more in-depth way than either the original film or the musical were able to. It’s a new place, and a world we’ve never seen.

#1: Big Musical Moments
The bigger the better! From “Arabian Nights” to “Prince Ali,” Aladdin is full of total showstoppers, and we expect nothing less of the new film. Full choreography, full voices and pure, joy-filled musical numbers are what we’re looking forward to the most. Both the original movie and the Broadway production have done this right, so the new show has big shoes to fill. We have every faith that it will.
