The Metropolitan Opera is one of the most highly respected Opera performance venues in the world, and the 2017-2018 season will continue its longstanding tradition of excellence. This thrilling and inspiring season will feature 220 performances of 26 distinctive works, including Met premieres and a vast variety of Met favorites.

The season officially opened on September 25, and it started with a bang with a brand new revival of Bellini’s Norma, starring one of the world’s most beloved interpreters of the titular role, Sondra Radvanovsky. Norma is followed by The Exterminating Angel, a Met co-commission, which is based on a screenplay by Luis Bunuel and Luis Alcoriza. This absurdist film-turned-opera will be conducted by Thomas Ades, and will be sung in English.

A brand new production of Puccini’s Tosca will begin performances on New Year’s Eve, conducted by Met Music Director Emeritus James Levine. Cosi Fan Tutte follows Tosca, and in this new production, it is set in 1950s Cony Island, and will star Tony Award winner Kelli O’Hara in her debut role at the Met.

Placido Domingo makes his return to the Met this season in Verdi’s rarely performed Luisa Miller. Rossini’s Semiramide is another lesser-known production, which was last performed on the Met stage in 1993. All of these shows – and more! – will be available not only to members of the Met’s devoted live audience, but also in The Met: Live in HD, which transmits Met performances to over 2 thousand movie theatres across 71 different countries. So whether you are a New York City local, or you are interested in taking in the productions of the Met while you’re abroad, you have a number of fabulous offerings that you can see. This promises to be one of the Met’s must illustrious seasons yet. Get tickets to the Met Opera
