Broadway Beat: ‘The Bands Visit,’ ‘Anastasia’ to Close, Disney’s ‘Hercules’ Musical Sets Premiere

Tony Award-Winning Best Musical The Band’s Visit to Close
The Band’s Visit will conclude Broadway performances at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on April 7, after marking over 550 shows and winning a remarkable 10 Tony Awards. A National Tour will embark later this year in June. The cast currently includes original cast members – and Tony winners for their roles in the musical – Katrina Lenk as Dina and Ari'el Stachel as Haled.

Anastasia Announces Final Performance
On March 31, Anastasia will close on Broadway after two years at the Broadhurst Theatre and over 800 performances. The musical currently stars original cast member Christy Altomare as Anya, and Australian musician Cody Simpson as Dmitry. The Tony-nominated musical features music by Stephen Flaherty and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens.

Broadway Cast of Beetlejuice Announced
Several players from the out-of-town, Washington, D.C. production of Beetlejuice will reprise their roles on Broadway this spring. Returning to their haunting characters include Tony nominee Alex Brightman (School of Rock) as Beetlejuice himself, alongside Lucille Lortel Award nominee Sophia Anne Caruso (Lazarus) as Lydia. Joining the pair in leading roles are Tony nominee Kerry Butler (Xanadu), Tony nominee Rob McClure (Chaplin), Adam Dannheisser (Oslo), Leslie Kritzer (A Catered Affair), Jill Abramovitz (Fiddler on the Roof), Kelvin Moon Loh (SpongeBob SquarePants), Danny Rutigliano (Holiday Inn) and Dana Steingold (Godspell). Previews begin on March 28 at the Winter Garden Theatre.

Staging of Disney’s Hercules Announced for Central Park
“Bless my soul!” The Public Theater will bring a Public Works staging of the beloved animated Disney film, Hercules, to life this summer. Fans can catch this live adaptation of Hercules from Aug. 30 through Sept. 8 at the outdoor Delacorte Theater, featuring a book by Kristoffer Diaz, music by Alan Menken, lyrics by David Zippel, direction by Lear deBessonet and choreography by Chase Brock.
