‘Wicked,’ ‘Beetlejuice,’ ‘Oklahoma!’ and other hit shows will perform

It’s that time of year again. The weather is delightful, warm, sunny and conducive to all kinds of outdoor activities, and the city is just bursting with options for some fun in the sun. When Independence Day has come and gone, we also know it’s time for one of Manhattan’s most glorious traditions: Broadway in Bryant Park.

What is Broadway in Bryant Park, you say? We are glad that you asked! It’s an annual concert series held over six Thursdays in July and August in New York City’s historic Bryant Park. Each installment features performers from Broadway and Off-Broadway productions. The free concerts are a great way to get a sampling of what NYC offers by way of professional theater. It is, after all, a city overflowing with talent and theater-going opportunities.

This is the 20th Anniversary of Broadway in Bryant Park. All of the concerts are held in the park and attendance is on a first come, first serve basis. All performances begin at 12:30 p.m. and last for approximately an hour. The shows are hosted by favorite on-air personalities from 106.7 LITE FM.

Here is the lineup for this year’s exciting series:

Thursday, July 11th
The first week of concerts for Broadway in Bryant Park looks to be an exciting launch of the series. The teen-angst comedy Be More Chill, the puppetry-animatronic spectacular King Kong, Off-Broadway’s long-running percussion entertainment troupe Stomp, and the long-running Broadway hit Wicked will all be on tap on July 11th to get the party started.

Thursday, July 18th
It’s a jam-packed day on July 18th, with five live theater productions performing in the park. The deliciously macabre Beetlejuice will be there to raise the dead, and Broadway’s longest running revival of all time, Chicago, will razzle dazzle. The cast of Come From Away will fly in and inspire, Off-Broadway’s Jersey Boys will give us a taste of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and Broadway’s Waitress will be serving up a healthy portion of entertainment for dessert.

Thursday, July 25th
Thursday, July 25th is Disney day at Broadway in Bryant Park, with the casts of Aladdin, Frozen and The Lion King creating a family friendly event that will be a particularly great opportunity to get the kids out of the house and expose them to some culture. Besides, what family isn’t immediately thrilled by the songs that come from a hit Disney musical? Disney day is traditionally a very popular installment for the series, so be sure to get there with plenty of time to get a spot and settle in.

Thursday, August 1st
The first concert in August provides an eclectic mix of Off-Broadway and Broadway on the schedule. Representing the former will be theater’s new cult hit Broadway Bounty Hunter, as well as the jukebox musical Rock of Ages. The Broadway entries will include the thrilling musical biography The Cher Show and the inspiring musical comedy The Prom. Drunk Shakespeare will co-host the performances, and members of the cast of Pip’s Island will provide the pre-show.

Thursday, August 8th
A Musical About Star Wars kicks off the festivities on August 8th. This will be followed by moments from the long-running jukebox musical Beautiful, the daring revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! and the musical stage adaptation of the beloved romantic comedy Pretty Woman.

Thursday, August 15th
And finally, Broadway in Bryant Park will close out its series in style. Off-Broadway’s Frankenstein will be there, as will the teenagers from Mean Girls. Broadway’s longest-running musical of all time, The Phantom of the Opera, will share some of the magic that has kept it a hit for 31 plus years. Finally, the cast of Tootsie will perform, bringing the curtain down on the 2019 Broadway in Bryant Park while ensuring we walk away with a smile.

Please remember that lineups are subject to change.
