“Oh, We Got Trouble”: Dream Casting the Broadway Revival of ‘The Music Man’

Category Broadway

Who will join Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster in the classic musical?

Broadway’s white knight is coming back to town, and we can’t wait. The Jerry Zaks-directed revival of The Music Man will star The Greatest Showman and X-Men star, Hugh Jackman, and Broadway’s favorite leading lady, Sutton Foster. With two of the biggest names on Broadway leading the show, and Warren Carlyle (Kiss Me, Kate!) set to choreograph, we started thinking about the perfect cast to bring the show back to Broadway.

Roman Banks as Tommy Djilas
The Dear Evan Hansen star would be perfect to bring Tommy to life. He’s the Romeo of the story, and is secretly dating the mayor’s daughter. This show is about love in many forms, including the young love the characters of Tommy and Zaneeta share. Roman’s energy onstage reminds you of what it was first like to be in love, and that’s why Tommy is the role for him.

Shereen Ahmed as Zaneeta Shinn
The My Fair Lady star would shine in this role like no other. After understudying the role of Eliza Doolittle on Broadway, she’s heading out on the national tour of the show. With her incredible charm and stunning voice, she’d add a new dimension to the playful part of Zaneeta Shinn, and give a truly enchanting performance.

Santino Fontana as Marcellus Washburn
You couldn’t name a more perfect person for this role! The Tootsie star and Tony winner would bring us a “Shipoopi” that Broadway has never seen before. After playing Michael Dorsey/Dorothy Michaels in Tootsie, Santino has fully tapped into his character acting skills. As Washburn, he’d bring a new life and sensibility to the show.

Alternate Casting:

Norm Lewis as Harold Hill
From King Triton in The Little Mermaid to the title role in The Phantom of the Opera, Norm Lewis has proven himself to be one of Broadway’s most charismatic and charming leading men. So when you start thinking about people that could play the smooth-talking con man, he’s one of the first on the list. Lewis last played the role opposite Jesse Mueller at the Kennedy Center, and we think it’s time he brought the band to Broadway.

Betsy Wolfe as Marian Paroo
Betsy Wolfe is known as one of the funniest leading women on Broadway for a reason. Her comedic timing is unmatched, and on top of that, she’s got one of the most beautiful voices in theater. From Jenna in Waitress to Cordelia in Falsettos, she’s been a Broadway highlight for years, and it’s easy to see her taking on the role on the role of everyone’s favorite librarian.
