The Best NYC Shows to Ring in 2019

Category Broadway

|by Jane Jourdan |

Start your 2019 right with Broadway’s best

Our New Year’s Resolution is pretty short: see more Broadway shows, full stop. We love ringing in the New Year with Broadway as much as we love watching the ball drop, along with a grand “Cheers!” at midnight to a New Year of more love, laughter, joy and meaning; all of which you can find along the Great White Way, every single night and in 2019. January will see the closing a few of our favorite shows, but rest assured 2019 is going to be a year of great theater. Here are some of our top picks for your first show of the New Year.

The Cher Show
Have all our diva jukebox musical dreams come true to manifest Cher coming to Broadway? Yes, times three. The epic storytelling of the life of Cher through three brilliant actresses gives us one of the most anticipated shows of the season. From the vocals to the music to the story, we are hooked on The Cher Show.

The Prom
This show is everything you want in 2019. Its highly current theme – one of acceptance of LGBTQ+ youth – helps bring some of our political struggles to the stage with a lot of comedy and even more heart. It’s definitely a fun show for the family, a date night or an evening with friends.

Mean Girls
“Fetch” has officially happened on Broadway, and it’s inside the August Wilson Theatre on 52nd St. Mean Girls checked all of our Broadway boxes for fresh, fun and current and is definitely not a show you can miss in 2019. Run, don’t walk – and don’t forget to wear pink!

Kiss Me, Kate!
We love a revival, and we give this one all of our Broadway stars…because, well, Kelli O’Hara is Queen in our Broadway Kingdom. The show is full of charm, and all of our favorite classic Cole Porter musical numbers, so be sure to put it at the top of your list this year!
