Oscar and Tony winner Denzel Washington returns to Broadway in Eugene O’Neill’s colossal drama The Iceman Cometh, in an all-new production directed by multiple Tony Award winner George C. Wolfe (the original Angels in America, The Normal Heart). Previews begin March 22, 2018, at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theater in advance of an April 26 opening (just before the cut-off date for the 2018 Tony Awards.) Iceman will play a limited 14-week engagement.

Washington stars as Theodore “Hickey” Hickman, a jovial, charming salesman returning to Harry Hope’s bar in 1912 New York for his annual bender. The denizens of the saloon, a motley crew of alcoholic dreamers, eagerly await Hickey’s arrival so they can drown their sorrows. But this year Hickey is out to smash their pipe dreams and make them face reality. Yet he has a startling secret of his own to conceal. O’Neill created an unforgettable world of shattered illusions in his greatest drama and Hickey is one of the most challenging roles of world theater. Jason Robards, James Earl Jones, Lee Marvin, Kevin Spacey and Nathan Lane have previously played it to great acclaim.

Denzel Washington is known for his work on both the stage and screen. He won a Tony Award for the 2010 revival of August Wilson’s Fences. He also appeared on Broadway in A Raisin in the Sun, Julius Caesar and Checkmates. He starred at Shakespeare in the Park in the title role of Richard III. He has won Oscars for Training Day and Glory and been nominated for the film version of Fences, Flight, The Hurricane, Malcolm X and Cry Freedom. Get tickets to The Iceman Cometh from
