What to Pack for a Fall Trip to NYC

Category Guide

|by Jane Jourdan |

Plus, what to wear to your Broadway show

Packing for a trip to New York City is like packing for every possible adventure you could and would ever want to take in the big apple. You need to have a little bit of everything for the city that never sleeps, just in case you get whisked away from your planned itinerary. With the leaves falling in the city, the magic is buzzing throughout the streets, and possibilities for autumn adventures are endless. But if you’re like us, you don’t want to be weighed down with luggage for your whimsical weekend in NYC. We’re big on layering, day-to-night outfits, and making sure you have something for every occasion. We also love dressing for our favorite Broadway shows, since every day on Broadway is a celebration! Below we are sharing both our must-haves for a Fall trip to NYC, as well as a few suggestions for fun outfits to go with the show you are seeing during your trip.

Day-to-night coat – Pick one coat that will work for day and night, and all occasions.

Scarf – For layering, with or without a coat, on days when the sun is shining.

One pair of sensible shoes – You will be doing a lot of walking, so make sure you have comfortable shoes (bad shoes are the most common NYC packing mistake).

One pair of non-sensible shoes – Think Cinderella-style (like the glittering ones Laura Osnes wore on Broadway) as your special-night-out shoes!

Show Style

Wicked – It goes without saying that we would recommend either glittering with Glinda, or going green with Elphaba. Seeing the show with your best friend? Do both!

Chicago – We recommend a sleek black look with a pop of red, or something with a little lace!

The Prom – Dare we suggest a shirt or dress with some prom-tastic ruffles?

Dear Evan Hansen – Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in, because “[That day] is going to be a great day and here's why: because…at least you're you and, well, that's enough."
