Overview

For the first time in more than 20 years, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s beloved musical Carousel returns to Broadway in a glorious new production directed by three-time Tony winner Jack O’Brien (Hairspray, Henry IV, The Coast of Utopia) and choreographed by Justin Peck (New York City Ballet). The stellar cast includes Tony nominee Joshua Henry (Violet, The Scottsboro Boys), Tony winner Jessie Mueller (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical), opera legend Renee Fleming, Margaret Colin (The Columnist, Jackie), and Alexander Gemignani (revivals of Sunday in the Park with George and Sweeney Todd.)

Originally presented in 1945, this was the legendary team’s first smash after Oklahoma! Swaggering carnival barker Bill Bigelow (Henry) sweeps innocent mill worker Julie Jordan (Mueller) off her feet in 1870s New England. Their shaky marriage hits the rocks when Julie becomes pregnant and they discover than not even death can conquer love.  The evergreen score includes such Broadway favorites as “June Is Bustin’ Out All Over,” “If I Loved You,” “This Was a Real Nice Clambake,” and the unforgettable anthem of hope, “When You Walk Through a Storm.”
