Mean Girls: About the Creators

With the help of an award-winning creative team, Mean Girls is the latest Hollywood hit to be successfully revamped for the stages of Broadway. At the top of the list of highly talented creatives working on the show is Tina Fey, the longtime Saturday Night Live cast member and creator and star of the critically-acclaimed TV show 30 Rock.

The one-and-only Tina Fey has set her sights on Broadway with this witty adaptation of her hit teen comedy Mean Girls. Released in 2004, the film earned Fey high praise for her original screenplay that deals with high school cliques, talent shows, and navigating the cafeteria. Keeping many of the famous lines of the movie intact, Fey developed the book for Mean Girls on Broadway to create a whole new experience. As a result, Fey has scored her first success as a playwright the Great White Way.

Working with Fey was her husband and collaborator, Jeff Richmond, a composer, actor and producer who wrote the music for the new Broadway show. Nell Benjamin, who won audiences over with her lyrics to the musical Legally Blonde, wrote the catchy lyrics for Mean Girls.

Coordinating all of the moving parts is one of the most-sought after directors on Broadway, Casey Nicholaw. Before bringing Mean Girls to life on the stage at August Wilson Theatre, Nicholaw worked on Broadway favorites like Aladdin
and won a Tony Award for his direction of the best-selling hit Book of Mormon.

With a show that’s been called “witty, worldly, and wise” (New York Magazine), Tina Fey and company are excited to present Mean Girls to the world after working on the project for more than five years.
