Overview

Created in collaboration with Disney Theatrical Group, the Walks of New York: Disney on Broadway Tour perhaps may be the “happiest tour on Earth.” The tour kicks off with a full hour with the New Amsterdam Theatre’s in-house historian, who regales tour-goers with the history of the building (which will be closed for the purposes of the tour). You’ll have the building to yourself, so you can visit the first floor and balcony levels and admire the stage as your guide describes what goes into the creation and performance of such Broadway productions as Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins, Aladdin, and The Lion King. You’ll also hear stories of what goes on behind the scenes and a few show-biz superstitions. Interestingly, the second part of the New Amsterdam Theatre leg of the tour is a visit to the prop studio, where you’ll get up close and personal with original props and set pieces for some of your favorite Disney on Broadway musicals.

To ensure that you get a full-rounded Broadway experience, though, you’ll venture outside of the New Amsterdam with a "Broadway insider," someone drawn from a team of actors, crew members and theater managers, all of whom have first-hand stage experience. You’ll discover the unlikely origins of Times Square, hear the rags-to-riches story of the theater district, learn how the Ziegfeld Follies kick-started Broadway as we know it today, visit Sardi’s to see its various character portraits and learn about the on- and off-screen shenanigans of Broadways biggest names. And you’ll also hear plenty of stories you’ll barely be able to believe, like how a goat once fell off a roof of one of the Broadway theaters.

Why Go?

Best Known For:
Exclusive insider knowledge from the best actors, crew, and directors Broadway has to offer, plus unprecedented access to Disney show’s costumes and props.

The Disney on Broadway: Behind the Magic tour combines the timeless charm you know and love Disney for with the glitz and glamour of Broadway. It’s a chance to explore the history of theater in Times Square, as well as to see a glimpse into the lives of working Broadway professionals. Plus, you get exclusive access to the New Amsterdam Theater, home to legendary Disney shows like Aladdin and The Lion King. And if that wasn’t enough, you’ll also visit the in-house Costumes and Props studio, where you can see how the magic gets put together.
