Overview

Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke (Boyhood, Before Midnight) and Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood, Little Miss Sunshine) clash as conflicted brothers in True West, Sam Shephard’s raucous comedy-drama of sibling rivalry and blustering machismo. Dano is Austin, a down-on-his-luck screenwriter holed up at his mother’s house on the California desert and desperately trying to sell his script for a Western. He is interrupted by the arrival of his estranged brother Lee (Hawke), a petty thief who slowly takes over his sibling’s ideas and identity. Directed by James Macdonald (Top Girls, Cloud 9), this production for the Roundabout Theater Company will play the American Airlines Theatre. “It’s taken us several years to find the two ferocious, magnificent stage actors that this play demands,” Mcdonald told the New York Times. “We finally got them in Ethan and Paul.” Hawke and Dano acted together in the 2004 film Taking Lives and Hawke directed Dano in the Off-Broadway production of Things We Want in 2007. Drama Desk and Obie winner Marylouise Burke (Sideways) and Gary Wilmes (HBO’s The Wizard of Lies) also star.
